Privacy policy

Chicago HH is published by Common Signal LLC. This page says what the site does with information about you, which is little, and what our providers see.

How Near me uses your location

Near me asks for your location only when you choose to use it. The site uses a location reading to sort listings on your device. We don’t collect or store that reading.

The map tiles are served from our own storage on Cloudflare; no third-party map or tile provider receives your requests. Viewing an area on the map requests the tiles for that area from our hosting, which processes those requests like any other page request.

Venue pages can show hours, phone and reviews from Google in a widget Google provides. Opening such a page loads that widget from Google, which can reveal to Google that you viewed the venue. We don’t receive or store what the widget shows. What Google collects when the widget loads is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

What stays on your device

While you browse, the site remembers your place in a list and the map position in your browser’s session storage, so Back takes you where you were; that is cleared when you close the tab. The site also keeps copies of the pages you’ve opened and the listing data in your browser so it works offline; your browser manages that cache and you can clear it in its settings. Your view settings (day, neighborhood, search, sort) travel in the page address, so a link you share carries them. The session-storage records and the offline copies stay in your browser; we never receive them. Opening a page, including a shared link with view settings in its address, and viewing an area of the map are ordinary requests to our hosting, described under “What we do handle”.

What we do handle

Our hosting provider processes information such as IP addresses and browser details to deliver the site. The site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. from our own account, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Cloudflare keeps logs of the requests our own code handles, today the map tiles, for up to seven days; we read them only to fix problems. For the pages we see only aggregate visit statistics: Cloudflare Web Analytics, which Cloudflare adds to each page as it is served, counts visits and page views without cookies and without building a profile of you. We don’t run advertising or trackers, and the site sets no cookies of its own.

If you email us

If you write to cheers@chicagohh.com, we receive your email address and whatever you send. Our email runs on Google Workspace, so Google processes the message for us under its terms. We use your message to reply and to check or change a listing, and we keep it as a record of why a listing changed. We don’t share it, sell it or use it for marketing.

Leaving the site

Links to venue websites, directions and phone numbers take you off this site. We don’t control what those sites collect; their privacy policies apply there.

If this changes

If we ever add features that need more — cookies, accounts, saved favorites — this policy will be updated before those features launch, and the page will say clearly what changed. Questions: cheers@chicagohh.com.
